About Periodic Testing
This is a test and inspection of an electrical installation to check that the installation is still in good order and compliant to current and appropriate regulations.
There are various time scales when electrical installations need to be inspected, domestic properties are generally every 10 years.
All installations should be inspected and tested by a National Inspection Council for Electrical Installation Contracting (NICEIC) or equivalent approved contractor. We are NICEIC registered, which ensures all our work is compliant with current legislation.
Periodic tests can also be required for other reasons, such as moving to a new house, insurance purposes, licensing, or the renting of properties etc.
What Does An Inspection Involve?
A fixed electrical installation includes all parts of a distribution system, from the main incoming supply point through to wiring accessories such as sockets and light fittings. Because the majority of the installation is unseen, it is often forgotten in terms of test and inspection.
It is vitally important that all your circuits and accessories are maintained to a high standard in order to ensure YOUR SAFETY and compliance with current regulations.
Here Is A List Of Items That We Check:
- Is all your earthing adequate?
- Suitability of the switchgear and control gear e.g. consumer unit
- Presence of adequate identification and notices
- Wear and tear of general accessories, sockets and lights etc
- Any alterations since the last inspection
- The condition of wiring, its age and general wear and tear
- Provision of Residual Current Devices (RCD's) for protecting appropriate circuits
